If after reading the previous page, you've decided that you still want to drive band buses, heres some tips:
- If you're known to a band bus operator, then you're half way there. As I mentioned, most companies won't even look at someone they don't know. It goes without saying that you must be a confident driver, able to jump into anything, trailer or not.
- Try phoning some of the companies on the 'operators' section of this website and offer your self as a 'double driver'. If you've got Continental experience it helps as 99% of double drives are in Europe. You'll be second driver, employed on a casual basis until you've proven yourself. Even as a double driver though, you'll get all the same perks as the tour driver. You'll even get the same money, but you will probably jump in and out of tours mid-tour so you're always an 'outsider' as far as the crew are concerned.
- Festival period can be very busy for double drivers and you could find yourself jumping straight from one tour to the next. However, the opposite can be said for the winter period. It does get very quiet for double drivers so its best have a winter job as back-up. It doesn't really matter where you live in the UK, if you're a good enough driver, companies will think nothing of flying you from your local airport to distant parts of Europe to meet up with tours.
- Impress the boss and stay with a company long enough and you'll eventually get your own bus and your own tours. Success!
